20-9 Peacocks Newsletter

Hello Peacock Parents,

Information from us:

This week has been great!  The weather has changed for the worse but our attitudes remain high and the children are continuing to learn new things and have fun.  We would like to inform you that Wednesdays will be our "toy days".  On "toy days" the children are allowed to bring 1 toy to school.  The purpose of toy day is to bring a toy and share it with another child.

As a reminder, if you would like to know what your child is doing on a day to day basis, we write a document everyday with a rundown of what the day’s activities were.  You can find this document right inside the front door of the school under the teacher’s pictures.

Our learning

Circle time: This week in circle time we revisited what we learned last week about the earth.  It was good to see the children remembering that information over the weekend!  We also talked a bit about where every child is from.  Then we put all of the countries into a cup and let a child choose the country we will start with.  Next week we will start to learn about all of the children’s and teachers home countries.  We will begin with Holland!

Art: A lot of the children like to pick flowers or berries while we are outside.  Mimmi has put together a project for the children to string the red berries from the tree.

Nature:  She is also teaching the children to use to berries that have fallen instead of pulling the berries off of the tree.  We feel it is important that the children learn how to let nature take its course and if we pull the leaves or berries off of the trees then it can hurt our environment.  We have also explained why we cannot gather the acorns from the trees and take them inside to our locker.  The children have learned that there are animals that eat the acorns.  We don’t want to take their food!

Math: We have continued to use the iPad to play games that are not only fun but educational.  This week we have been encouraging the children to also use their fingers to add or subtract.  Just so they see and learn to understand not only the math problem itself, but the work behind the solution.

Clothing: As you know the weather has changed.  The beginning of fall is upon us.  Please remember to send you child to school with rain wear and extra clothing.  From time to time the elements manage to make it into the children’s shoes and under their rain clothes.  Having and extra pair of pants, shirt, socks would help keep the children warm and clean.  Also, please try to send your child to school with indoor shoes.  The children do play indoors and they have space to run around in the gym.  We wouldn’t want to see anyone slip and fall in their socks on the floor.
