Newsletter week 17

Dear Peacocks parents,

On Monday April 27th it is Kings Day in the Netherlands.

We will have a small celebration by playing some traditional games and some typical Dutch food. Thanks to Pieter (Maxs’ dad), we have some really good food:).

As orange is the national color, all children can come with something orange to school.

They can choose to get the Dutch flag with face paint on their cheek on the day itself.

In week 19 we will have a PRAO joining the Peacocks groups. Her name is Mathilda and she will be with us the whole week from 8.00-14.00.

Our learning:

Monday:

In the morning we checked on our seeds, as they had just a little bit of water over the weekend, we took care of them extra good today.

We started the next cycle; The Boyles experiment. As we already discussed this subject a while ago, we added some more information to it. Corrie and the children will make a machine that is meant to cycle water continuously without help.  In the science room he showed the children that achieving this could be a means of cheap or free energy.  This is connected to our changes them by demonstrating the use of the energy created by moving water to create power we can use everyday (electricity).

In the afternoon the children had capoeira class.

We have been working on the following Lpfö goals:

* Develop their use of spoken language and express their thoughts, put questions and to communicate with others

* Develop their curiosity and enjoyment, as well as their ability to play and learn

* Develop their understanding of science and relationships to nature, as well as knowledge of plants, animals, and also simple chemical processes and physical phenomena

Tuesday:

On the morning we went to the park! It was a lovely morning:)

When we got back to school Corrie did a recap on the Boyles experiment.

Also Corrie and the children began building the machine we need for the project.

In the afternoon some more children made their flowers with paint together with Marcio.

In the afternoon the children had dance class from Hebert.

We have been working on the following Lpfö goals:

* Develop their self-autonomy and confidence in their own ability

* Develop their curiosity and enjoyment, as well as their ability to play and learn

* Develop their use of spoken language, vocabulary and concepts, as well as the ability to play with words, relate something, express their thoughts, put questions, and put forward their arguments and communicate with others.

Wednesday:

Today we tried out or water cycling machine!  The first go at is was unsuccessful but this is to be be expected since we are attempting to create perpetual motion or at least long lasting motion and clean energy.  We came to the conclusion that we will need to build another machine.  We will continue this over the course of the remaining time in our theme.  We have already discussed with the children that there is no such thing as perpetual motion.  This project is more about the trial and error process and if even for a moment, creating power with the energy of moving water.

We have been working on the following Lpfö goals:

* Develop their creative abilities and the ability to convey impressions, thoughts and experiences in many different forms, such as play, pictures, song and music, and drama

* Develop their curiosity and enjoyment, as well as their ability to play and learn

Thursday:

In the morning we were able to use the art room to finish our flower project for the art exhibition. The are all unique and beautiful!

Also we baked the letter S. We practiced the sound and the shape.

In the afternoon we went outside and the children had Jolly Phonics class with Magda.

We have been working on the following Lpfö goals:

* Develop their fine motor skills

* Develop their creative abilities and the ability to convey impressions, thoughts and experiences in many different forms, such as play, pictures, song and music, and drama

* Develop their use of spoken language, vocabulary and concepts, as well as the ability to play with words, relate something, express their thoughts, put questions, and put forward their arguments and communicate with others.

Friday:

In the morning we started our other art project, making a music instrument.

Together with Corrie the first children made a drum! Today and next week all children will make a drum or a harmonica The can paint and decorate the way the would like to.

In the gym we have been practicing the summer party songs and played several running games.

In the afternoon we went outside.

We have been working on the following Lpfö goals:

*  Develop their understanding of science and relationships to nature, as well as knowledge of plants, animals, and also simple chemical processes and physical phenomena

*  Develop their understanding of space, shapes, location and direction, and the basic properties of sets, quantity, order and number concepts, also for measurements, time, and change
