Newsletter week 36

Dear Peacocks parents,

This week the children learned about the origin and history of the Olympics. We divided the children into countries and prepared for the opening ceremony we will have on Thursday together with the Flamingoes.

In the gym and on the wall in the math and construction room we will hang up all children’s work. Please take a look to see what they have been doing.

Our learning:

Monday:

In circle time today we told the children about the history of the Olympics and the lighting of the torch, we showed them pictures of the lighting of the flame.

In the science and board games room the children were divided in groups to have some activities done. F.ex. making the Olympics rings by using their body’s, watch a short movie about the lighting of the torch and played a memory game with all the Olympic sports on it.

We have been working on the following Lpfö goals:

* Develop their curiosity and enjoyment, as well as their ability to play and learn

* Develop their self-autonomy and confidence in their own ability

* Develop their motor skills. Ability to coordinate awareness of their own body.

Tuesday:

In the library and five senses room we did a memory activity using Olympic cards, vocabulary cards with pictures and words of the games in Olympics and we also colored the Olympic flag.

On the memory cards were all the Olympic sports so the children get to know all the different sports.

In order to make the Olympic flag on Wednesday (with their body’s) the kids colored in the drawing of the Olympic to practice the colors of the flag.

In the vocabulary cards the children match the words to the picture cards. It was a really interesting experience for the children as they learned the names of sports through an interactive game.

We have been working on the following Lpfö goals:

*Develop their use of spoken language, vocabulary and concepts, as well as the ability to play with words, relate something and express their thoughts.

Wednesday:

In the morning we made a Imotion movie with the children. They made the Olympic flag with their body by laying down in circles and having the right color paper on their belly. This was lots of fun and the kids liked watching the movie!

In circle time we had a recap of what we did during the week. We also talked about the torch relay by showing them the pictures and movies of the relay of the lighting of the torch.

We divided the children into groups and all of them made their own little Olympic torch. They decorated it with beads and glitter.

* Develop their motor skills. Ability to coordinate awareness of their own body.

* Develop their creative abilities and the ability to convey impressions and thoughts.

Thursday:

Today we had the math and construction room. In the morning all children choose a country by potluck. The children are divided in 6 countries; USA, China, Egypt, Sweden, UK and Australia. Together with the flamingoes the teams are set for all the activities we will be doing.

After a recap of all we learned so far about the Olympics, the children were divided into 3 groups. One group made the Olympic Rings with play dough, in the other group  the children pinned the flags of the country (they picked) on the world map in the math and construction room. In the last activity the children moved balls from one bucket to another by using a straw. In the end of the game they had to count the number of balls they had collected in the buckets. The children loved it because it engaged them both mentally and physically.

* Develop their curiosity and enjoyment, as well as their ability to play and learn.

Friday:

We went to the big and the small park where the children played on the swing and the slide.

After lunch we went in to the art room where the children colored in a athlete picture, played with beads and play dough.

* Develop their motor skills. Ability to coordinate awareness of their own body.

Important dates:

September 12-14th: Lice preventing weekend

September 18th: Staff meeting – School closes at 16.00
September 26th: Futura Olympics

September 29th: Parents meeting 18.00-20.00 – All parents are invited to come to the school, more information will follow

Important information:

Weather is changing again so please make sure your child has enough rain clothes and extra clothes at their spot.

Not all children have indoor shoes, its for their own safety they have to wear them. Also we will be using the gym a lot in the next few weeks, and it’s to dangerous for the the children without indoor shoes to play in the gym.

To be able to start our activities with all the children we we would like to let you know that we have snack and circle time at 9.30 and start our activities no later than 10.00.

We have seen that many children want their parents to stay longer, and that is very normal. Leaving your child at the pre-school can sometimes be a challenge. For children saying goodbye is more difficult when you stay for a long time. We know it can be though, but for the child it’s often better when you leave quickly after drop-off. Except of Monday when we have planning time, one of the Peacock teachers is always at school from 8.00.

Our class schedule is on the pink mirrors upstairs close to the toilets. We also use this spot to hang up the newsletter and other important information.

Every last Wednesday of the month we have toy-day. Please make sure your child does not bring toys, money, bears or other things from home on other days. Also, please do not send toy guns or Legos to school with the children.  These things can be a distraction.

If you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to contact us or speak directly with us.

Dear parents,

Last week we found out not all children have proper outdoor clothes.

Also not all clothes are labeled what makes it difficult for us to know who’s clothes are from who.

Please make sure your child has the following items at school:

– Water proof rain boots

– Rain pants

– Rain jacket

– Outdoor shoes that are closed and well fitted (crocks are summer shoes and not good for the walking, playing and the sports activities we are planning to do)

– Extra socks, pants, shirt and sweater

When winter comes it is important your child has:

– Warm winter shoes

– A warm snow/winter jacket

– Warm winter pants

– Hat, gloves and scarf

Thanks for your help!
