Newsletter week 38
Dear Peacocks parents,
Next Friday it is the Olympics! All children need to be at school at 8.30. Also we would like to ask if all children can bring their own water bottle on that day and wear sports clothes.
The children made a big Olympics flame and around it we hung up pictures of the children doing sports. All the children will have a picture of themselves on the wall of fame!
Wednesday it is Toy day! The children can bring a toy to school that they can share with the other children. We kindly ask to look for an appropriate game for the children to bring.
Our learning:
Monday:
Today we started working on sports! In circle time we had a recap of all what they have learned so far. After that we introduced the term ‘track and field’. The children learned what exercises belong to track and field. We went to the small park where the children ran 150m around the park in their country team.
Also we took the time we will have some math activities with that on Thursday.
In the afternoon the children had dance classes from Hebert. He teaches them to feel comfortable to move around on music. When he says one, the children need to dance in slow motion; when he says two, they walk; on three, they run and on four, they stand still.
When the children feel more comfortable of using their body he will teach them dance moves for a particular song.
We have been working on the following Lpfö goals:
* Develop their curiosity and enjoyment, as well as their ability to play and learn
* Develop their self-autonomy and confidence in their own ability
* Develop their motor skills. Ability to coordinate awareness of their own body.
Tuesday:
We asked the children in circle time about the different track and field games. Today we started with explaining the relay race. At the small park we did the relay with three country groups. They had lots of fun and it was a good practice for the real Olympics!
In the afternoon the children had capoeira lesson. They are learning different moves from China, they are doing very well for only the second class! We added a movie so you can see what they have been learning so far.
We have been working on the following Lpfö goals:
*Develop their use of spoken language, vocabulary and concepts, as well as the ability to play with words, relate something and express their thoughts.
* Develop their motor skills. Ability to coordinate awareness of their own body.
Wednesday:
We had snack inside and had a short circle time where we showed the children another movie of a relay race. After that we went to the small park where we had another relay race. The children really know now how it works and we will be having a race on the Olympics day as well.
After lunch we had our big circle time. We discussed winning and losing. Corrie showed the children a movie of a British runner who hurt himself during a race but continued on to finish the race with the help of his father to display for the children it is not all about winning, it is about participating and finishing the game. The children were very involved and impressed by the movie.
We have been working on the following Lpfö goals:
* Develop their creative abilities and the ability to convey impressions and thoughts.
* Develop their motor skills. Ability to coordinate awareness of their own body.
Thursday:
In circle time Asma showed the children a movie with all funny pictures happening during the Olympics. We had a recap of the relay race and the winning and losing topic.
After that we introduced the long jump and the hurdle race with pictures and a movie.
In the small park we first did the hurdle race and after that the children did the long jump in their country groups. They measured how far they got and they compared the differences.
The children very much enjoyed the running and jumping and continued playing the games themselves.
In the afternoon the children played in the math and construction room. We talked about the different times from the running race and the distance of the jumping. Also Corrie played a math game in small groups where the children had to roll the dice and peg as many eyes as were rolled on a big round plate.
The children have been baking with Olof and Florentine. They helped with measuring, mixing and making the cookies. With afternoon snack the children enjoyed their homemade cookies!
We have been working on the following Lpfö goals:
* Develop their curiosity and enjoyment, as well as their ability to play and learn.
* Develop their motor skills. Ability to coordinate awareness of their own body.
* Develop their mathematical skill in putting forward and following reasoning.
Friday:
In circle time we explained the high jump, we showed them pictures and a movie and Corrie showed the children how to do it!
In the gym we set up a high jump place where all children practiced and after that we had a real round where the children measured how high they came. Also the compared their heig
hts every time they jumped so they could see the number getting bigger, as they jumped higher.
We have been working on the following Lpfö goals:

Important information:
Not all children have indoor shoes, its for their own safety they have to wear them. Also we will be using the gym a lot in the next few weeks, and it’s dangerous for the the children without indoor shoes to play in the gym.
To be able to start our activities with all the children we we would like to let you know that we have snack and circle time at 9.30 and start our activities no later than 10.00.
We have seen that many children want their parents to stay longer, and that is very normal. Leaving your child at the pre-school can sometimes be a challenge. For children saying goodbye is more difficult when you stay for a long time. We know it can be though, but for the child it’s often better when you leave quickly after drop-off. Except of Monday when we have planning time, one of the Peacock teachers is always at school from 8.00.
If you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to contact us or speak directly with us.
