Dear Peacocks parents,

Information from us

Hello Peacock parents!

As a reminder, we will still be outside for 2 hours everyday. Every child should have snow pants and a coat or a snow suit, waterproof shoes, gloves, a warm hat, and extra socks. We will be sleeding up to twice a week while there is snow and the school has sleds for the children to use. Please do not send sleds from home. If your child has a sled at the school, please take it home. Also, every child who would like to participate in the sledding should bring a helmet from home. Lastly, every child should also have inside shoes and a sweater or fleece to wear indoors.

Our learning

Circle time: This week in circle time we revisited the letter A which we learned last week. This week we learned the letter B and that was also a topic of discussion in circle time. We also took a moment of our circle time to talk about how to treat eachother. In these moments when we are sitting together as a group we feel it is important to remind the children that we must take care of eachother!

Art: Following our learning of the letter B this week, the children colored in some worksheets of the upper-case and lower-case version of the letter. Also, the children have alot of time to draw and color freely. They all have their own personal books to draw in and they are free to take the book from their box whenever they are finished with an activity or we have free play time.

English and Vocabulary: We are continuing our learning of one letter per week. This week we are focusing on the letter B. Every child had the opportunity write the upper and lower-case on paper and to color in both versions of the letter. Along with this, during circle time we asked the children to think of words or names that begin with the letter B. The children also did some baking having to do with learning the letters! We put toger some inedible dough for the children to shape letters out of and then we baked the dough to make the letters hard The children had loads of fun with this project!

Math: This week we saw the need to revisit the even numbers. Once again we built the tower of cups with even numbers written on them. As a result more children are starting to understand the concept of odd and even numbers. Also some of the children continued with learning number placement. Hopefully those children can move on to rounding numbers next week. A good number of the children find math fun! The children really like to challenge themselvs to figure out problems using mathmatical process and logic. Some of the children are even using this logic to play an ipad game wheich asks them to build a bridge strong enough for a train to cross. We can even see that they have learned that triagles are the strongest shapes to build with!

Outings: This week we will be going to the big hill behind the school again to go sledding. Adriana has suggested that we try to find out where some of the children will be going to school next year and to plan a trip to visit the school. This sounds like a great idea and we will keep you updated on the execution of this idea.

Dear Peacocks parents,

Information from us

Hello Parents and welcome back from the winter break! Recently it has started to snow and we want to make sure the children are prepared to be outside. We will still be outside for 2 hours everyday. Every child should have snow pants and a coat or a snow suit, waterproof shoes, gloves, a warm hat, and extra socks. We will be sleding once or twice a week while there is snow and the school has sleds for the children to use. Please do not send sleds from home. Also, every child who would like to participate in the sledding should bring a helmet from home. Lastly, Every child should also have inside shoes and a sweater or fleece to wear indoors.

Our learning

Circle time: This week in circle time talked a bit about the gifts the children received for Christmas. We are continuing with our counting of the present children, the children who are absent, and the sum of the two. We are focusing on using our circle time to support the things we have been working on for the week.

Art: We have begun to work on the history of writing. The children used the heiroglyphic alphabet to write their names. The heiroglyphic alphabet is composed of simple pictures which represent each letter.

English and Vocabulary:  This week we started with our learning of the English alphabet. We will be learning one alphabet every week. We have blocks that are also small books. The back and the front of the blocks show the letter in upper and lower case form. Inside of the block there are 8 words beginning with the latter of the week. Along with the study of one letter, the children are also learning to capitalize the first letter of a name.  We are also learning how to write the week’s letter with a pencil.

Math: This week we have started with some new math games and continued in our progress with the old ones. We are working diligently with every child to meet their needs. With the children who need help recognizing numbers, we are continuing with out 123 ninja game that is based on identifying numbers and quantity. With the children who are in the middle of learning addition and subtraction, we are continuing with the Todo Math app which is based on doing basic addition and subtraction and also identifying number and writing them.

With the children who are beginning multiplication we are using the Multiplication Training app which is based on learning basic multiplication from 1 to 10. We have also made a multiplication chart to support the children learning different methods of multiplication. With the children who can Multiply well we are continuing with a bit of division and also number placement (ones, tens, hundreds, thousands, ten thousands, hundred thousands). The children really enjoy doing math!

The children have also begun to learn even and odd numbers.  We did this by building a tower out of cups that were labeled with even numbers from 2 to 30.

Outings: This week the children went to the big hill at the park for the first time.  It is very easy to see why this part of the year is a favorite for the children.  They had such a great time sledding down the hill together!

Science: This week we started to study snowflakes.   We talked briefly about how snowflakes are formed and the fact that just like us humans, no two snowflakes are alike.  Next week we will learn about freezing by doing a "supercooling experiment" with carbonated water.

Farewell from Ashlee

Good Afternoon All,

I’m writing to inform you all that I have resigned from my position within the Cockatoos. My last day of work will be Tuesday 4th February.

I’ve been blessed to have met and worked with such lovely children and parents. The past 1,5 years have been a wonderful start to my life in Sweden with the Cockatoos.

I wish you all the best for the future and will miss you all very much.

Kind Regards,

Ashlee Hamill
