October Newsletter

Hello Parents!

So fall is officially here. We are moving into the darker (and colder) part of the year, but I can happily inform you that some more lights are on the way! The work should get started soon, and be finished by mid-November.

Important Dates:

·         October 31st: Halloween Party!

·         Individual Development Meetings: End of October/Start of November

Friday, November 2nd

Regular pre-school open until 14.00

Wednesday, November 14th

PSA meeting 8.00-9.00

Friday, November 16th

Staff Development Day

If you would need care after 2pm on the 2nd or at all on the 16th, please let me know as soon as possible otherwise the school will be closed.

Halloween

One of our traditions at the pre-school is our celebration of Halloween.  We have decided that the entire school will do our Trick-or-Treating between 9:30-10:30. We will give out some dried fruit, stickers, balloons etc, we will NOT be giving out candy or sweets. Please have your children come dressed in their costumes. Some of the classes have their own Halloween activities planned for the day, and will send out any extra information in their class newsletter.

Holiday Break

Our school term ends on the 14th of December and begins again the 14th of January, the school is still open during the holiday break, but many of children and staff take longer break so we do not follow our regular schedules during that time. We would therefore like to get information from all of our parents about if and when you are here during the break, order food, make schedules etc. So please fill in the Holiday Break form and return it to your teachers no later than November 9th.

Pedagogical Environment Outside

Now that the Lights out side are on the way, it is time for the next project which is addressing the puddle. We have spoken to a few different experts and our school’s handy man, and unfortunalty there is now miracle cure. We are discussing some different options and will keep you all updated.

Kind Regards,

Coral Ljunggren

P.S. It is time to bring out the winter clothes now that the temperature is hovering a little above 0 degrees. Remember…in Sweden, there is no bad weather, just bad clothes! J

Cockatoos October 19th newsletter

Hello Cockatoos parents,

Our learning

As most of you have seen, we have put a whiteboard at the top of the stairs near the lockers for the children to write what they did today. As we can be quite busy at times, we will endeavor to get this done about 3 times a week. The planning for the next two weeks will also be hung on the same wall.

This week we talked more about the colors of Elmer and painted these colors on a big piece of paper that will be hung up in the classroom. The kids had a great time free painting and mixing the colors to see what new color they could create.

As of next Monday, our next book will be Jungle drums. This book is about a warthog that has no color or design and is surrounded by other animals that have different colors and shapes on their skin. We will concentrate on teaching the kids the colors and shapes on each animal.

We also had a baking session with the kids last week. We made honey cupcakes which the kids helped us put together. As this was a lot of fun, we will continue to bake throughout the rest of the year. We also took some photos of the kids which will be printed and put into their portfolios sometime this week.

On the 4th October we also had Dierendag (Animal Day) where the kids were allowed to bring one fluffy toy to school. We joined the Peacocks and had a discussion about the toys and what they were and the colors/shapes they have.

Information from us

To make it easier for both staff and parents, it’s important to clearly label all items of clothing that are being worn at the school. In the rush of getting ready, clothes can be misplaced or lost if not labeled. All clothes with no labels will be put in the lost and found department.

As winter is fast approaching, now would be a great time to clear out any unnecessary summer clothing, and bring in some winter woollies! If it’s a nice day we will be outside, so scarves, gloves, beanies and winter jackets are required. Rain boots and pants are also essential items that the kids require.

Important dates

31/10/12 – Halloween: From 11 to 12 we will be trickk or treating inside of the school at the different classrooms.

We ask that the children dress up on Halloween

We would really like the kids to get dressed up and celebrate the theme of Halloween! We also will be getting dressed up as part of the fun. As we have a sugar-free policy, we will be doing a trick or treat with dried fruit, stickers ect.

02/11/12 – Regular care for children is available until 14:00

16/11/12 – Futuraskolan offers Staff Development days for all employees. The regular pre-school is therefore closed on this day. For those families who need care during this day, please contact your pre-school principal at least two weeks in advance.

Thank-you and Warm Regards,
Florentine, Corrie and Ashlee

As we can be quite busy at times, we will endeavor to get this done about 3 times a week. The planning for the next two weeks will also be hung on the same wall.

This week we started reading the book on Elmer. We focused on the colors that Elmer has in his patchwork skin. Each day, we took the kids in groups of 3 and taught the kids how to mix colors to create all of Elmer’s skin colors.

We also created big shapes with tissue paper and are in the process of talking and reorganizing our wall in the classroom with the kids.

Recently we have given out Emergency contact forms and Photo permission forms. If you have not handed them in could you please do so as soon as possible. If the forms have been misplaced, please come and see us and we will print you out a new copy.

This week we will be putting up new bulletin boards which will be hung across from daily activity information upstairs. This bulletin will include our bi-weekly emails, daily and weekly schedules and any important information for that week. This bulletin will be updated every Monday morning.
