March Newsletter

Hello Parents!

March seems to have gotten away from me, so many things happening and Spring seems to have arrived. If you haven’t turned in your Easter attendance, please do so asap. Also note that we do not offer regular care after 14.00 on Thursday April 5th.

Project Groups

One thing that we have initiated here over the past month is a few project groups to help us plan our pedagogical environment both inside and outside. Each group consists of one pedagogue from each of the classrooms and is responsible for one area of the school.  The group is planning for what we need now, and what we will do going forward.

The groups meet once a month with me to discuss our plans and strategies for how we want to create and utilize the spaces her at the school, so if you have any ideas or suggestions about the space please feel free to give your suggestions to your teacher. This is an opportunity for creating a wonderful school for our children so any and all ideas are appreciated!

Summer Vacation

I know that spring has barely arrived, but we are starting to look at summer vacation for our staff and therefore wondering which of the children will need care this summer. We will be closed July 2-July 27th, but one of our Futuraskolan Ensta will be open. I will be scheduling staff to work this summer from all of the requests you make. So please return those Summer Attendance sheets by April 10th.

For those of you Peacocks that are going off to school this fall, we will be offering care in august before the schools term starts. Even if you are uncertain as to which school you will be attending, feel welcome to use your place here with us in august.

Parent Meeting

We would like to formally invite you to our parent meeting on April 19th at 17.30-19.00. The First protion of the meeting will be all together  and I give some general information about Futuraskolan, what we are doing now, and our plans for the fall. Then we will divide into our classrooms and the teachers will have a small info session about their current IPC projects and explain our routines and some of their goals and objectives for the rest of the term and going forward.

Inspection March 5-6th

As some of you may have noticed, we had an inspection on the 5th and 6th of March. The inspectors met with Nicole and myself, as well as teachers and our PSA parents. The feedback we got from them so far is that we have a pre-school to be proud of. Of course we have a lot of work to do going forward, but for only having been open for one year, I feel very proud for everything we have accomplished so far. Bravo!

Hope to see you on the 19th!

Kind regards,

Coral Ljunggren

Hello again all Penguin parents

We have had a few fantastic weeks getting out enjoying the sun more and more. We have made a few more planned art activities, one being potato printing, practicing cutting the potatoes in shapes, which was a great fun but a little tricky and then stamping them in paint and on to our papers. We have also started doing lots of Easter eggs gluing feathers, sequins and ribbons to decorate them.

We also did a dinosaur hunt last Thursday in the woods behind the school. First we had some fruit snack, then we sang some songs and made up a rhyme "we are going on a dinosaur hunt". Walking in the woods was a fun experience and looking for our dinosaurs was very exiting. We found them hiding under a pine tree and everyone got a dinosaur sticker when we found them!

Our daily routine is going to change slightly back to the routine we had in the fall-term, we take the children outside in the mornings and have our fruit snack outside. We then go inside to do our activities for the day. Then the day proceeds as normal with lunch, sleep and snack, to then go outside again. For the children this might be slightly confusing in the beginning and when we change our routines we try and do it to benefit all the children the best we can. If you find it hard to drop of in the morning, come and find us and tell your child to have a good day, we will then say good bye and help find them something to do and play with.

A few important dates are coming up in April! For Easter regular care ends at 14.00 on the of 5th April. School is closed for bank holiday on the 6th and 9th of April. The 30th of April regular care ends at 14.00 and the 1st of May we are closed for bank holiday.

If your child is attending on the 5th of April we ask that you bring in a colorful head scarf and apron to dress up in for the Swedish tradition of witches at Easter. We will have an Easter egg hunt and the children will be able to be dressed up all day if they wish. Note, the Swedish Easter witches are friendly and colorful!

In the middle of April we will send out an invite for a parent meeting during the evening. More information to come.

We have made some changes in the hallway and moved some of the children’s spots. Sorry for the initial confusion but now we can easier get the children dressed and stay in our group getting ready for outside play. Please make sure your children have one change of clothes; including trousers, top, jumper, socks and underwear everyday. It is spring time so help us be prepared for the changing weather by supplying rain boots and rain clothes. We would really appreciate if you try to avoid bring in plastic bags as we are a pre-school and we want to minimize any risks and hazards to the children’s safety and environment.

We are making some name signs for the hallway. So we would like you to send us information on which countries of origin your child has, how to say hello in any of the languages you speak at home and we would also like you to put how you would like your names on this sheet. To see how it is going to look like, check the Chick’s spots which have their information on already.

During the following week we will have a PRAO (work experience) student in our class, his name is E Joon.

Have a great week

Dear penguin parents,

We are now slowly getting into spring and are able to spend longer playtimes outside. The bikes have come out again and the children are all happy to come out in the fresh air and get rid of those last lingering germs.

We have had a few eventful weeks here in the penguins with our newest member being Andrey, who we warmly welcome to our class. Bringing us up to 14 children, and so we also welcome our newest member of staff Corrie as a permanent teacher with us.

We had our annual Vasaloppet day in February just as the snow started to thaw. But the children really enjoyed the day, when we gave them number signs and did lots of races and outside play. This was then finished off with everyone reciveing a medal and we had hot blueberry soup for snack as this is a traditional drink during the race to keep you warm.

During the spring we will be working with the IPC theme animals, as this is a great interest of our penguins, we will be talking, reading and learning about all sorts of animals. We will also be planting, baking, painting and doing some role play in this theme. We have started off by painting some big cardboard boxes which we will transform into farm houses. We have also started on some pig masks and little caterpillars so that we will be able to dress up and play pretend in our new farm houses.

During last week we had a tillsynsbesök, which is the quality control done by the kommun to see the standard in all pre-schools. This ment a few new faces that came in and observed us and they also sat down and talked to staff and our PTSA parents. What they saw and heard was then given to us in feedback and they were pleased with our work.

If your child started pre-school with us before January 2012 we have sent out feedback forms for you to fill in or to do online, unfortunately only 6 parents in the whole school has filled these in! These forms are for the kommun to be able to publish the feedback we get online and for us to get guidance on what we can work and improve on so please fill them in! If you have lost your form or didn’t receive one, please ask us for a new one.

If you are planning any holidays over the coming weeks and for easter please let us know. We will be going around asking you for your plans in order for us to plan staff holidays during this time.

All sunny wishes

Your penguin teachers Sandra, Angelika and Corrie
