Hello parents,

Last week and this week where full of festive activities, such as Lucia last week. Thanks for coming to our Lucia party, it was great to see you all and see how big family we have become by now! This week we had a nice Christmas lunch with traditional Swedish food. The children loved it and tried almost everything, except for the pickled herring J.

Besides these special events we did lots of classroom and outside play, we decorated the classroom with stocks, shiny stars and finished our lovely Christmas tree. During the outside play we enjoyed the first snow that has fallen this week! For some this was the first time they enjoyed playing in the snow; making snowballs and feeling the cold texture of the snow.

In the coming weeks we are planning to create your children’s portfolios. In the portfolio the growth and development of your child will be documented. Therefore, we would like to ask the parents who haven’t brought in a binder yet (including plastic sheets) to do this in the beginning of the new year.

This is the last newsletter for the calendar year, so we would like to thank you for your full support during the fall term, wish you happy holidays, and a happy new year!

The Penguins teachers

Hi everyone!

Thank you all for a wonderful Lucia, and thanks to all the parents for the lovely Christmas presents. It was a great first Lucia, and I am looking forward to many more.

Holiday Schedule

I have now finished the Christmas vacation planing and made a schedule according to the hours that you have informed us that you need childcare.

Next week, December 19-22 we will be open our usual times. We are open on December the 23rd, there are a few teachers and I who will be here, but if any of your needs change, please also let us know so we can plan accordingly.

The week between Christmas and New Years (December 27th, 28th, 29th & 30th) we will be open from 8.30-16.30 so if you discover that you need other times please contact Nicole or me as soon as possible.

After New Years, January 2-4th we will be open as usual, but please note that the 5th is a half day and we close at 14.00.

Spring term

The first day of spring term is January 9th. Since our school is still growing, we will be schooling in some children in all of the groups during the months of January and February. We will therefore be adding some Pre-school teachers and other staff to our ranks. The recruiting process is in full swing, and I will keep you all informed as I sign contracts with the new staff.

Although we are sad to see Genevieve go, and appreciate the fantastic energy that she has brought to the Cockatoos, I am very happy to inform you that we will be getting a new teacher to the group, her name is Valeria Dralova and she will be starting the 9th of January.

To help me better plan the spring term, I would ask that all of you fill in which times you will be needing childcare for the spring. This will help me to schedule the staff to meet your needs and the needs of your children, so if you would please take a minute to fill in those attendance sheets that would really help us a lot!

I am also sending out the dates to remember for the spring term.

On-site

As I have mentioned to some of you, I will be on-site at Maskinvägen two or three days a week, as I divide my time between Brunbärsvägen and Täby. I have hung up a schedule in the office and will ask the staff to post which days I am on sight on the calender in the entry way. If you would need anything and I am not there you can either speak with Nicole or drop me a line. Unfortunatly I don’t have a telefone number yet, but I check my email regularly.

When I am at Täby, I will be spending the first months getting to know the children and staff by visiting classrooms. I will post information about which classrooms I will be visiting in the January newsletter.

Have a great week and I will see you on Monday the 19th!

Respectfully,

Coral Ljunggren

The Parent Support group have bought small gifts for all 14 staff at Futura Maskinvägen! They will get pretty little Christmas tree decorations in the shape of a globe, and chocolate!

We will give them out tomorrow at the Lucia celebration as heartfelt thanks for their hard work!

The gifts totaled 567 kr (14 Xmas ornaments from Indiska and chocolate from Metro Täby Centrum).

There are 55 kids at Maskinvägen so just 10kr per child will be enough to cover all the gifts!

It would be much appreciated if you wanted to contribute by passing on 10 kr to me at the Lucia celebration, catch me another day, or send it by post to my house!

All the best and hope to see you tomorrow!

Dear Parents,

It is been a while, but here is the Penguins Newsletter for the last two weeks!

We have changed our daily routines so that we can use the daylight better. We started last Monday with our new routine: we stay inside in the mornings and at 9 we have our fruit snack to then go outside from 9.30. Around 10.30 we go inside for our toilet / nappy changing time. We sit down for lunch at 11 and when finished we read a story and about 11.45 nap time starts, then we have snack at 2 and go up for a run and play in the gym, practicing lots of our gross motor skills. In the afternoon we spend time in the classroom and try to undertake different activities (art, reading, coloring etc.).

This new routine has enabled us to do baking and painting much more frequently as the children are calmer by the afternoons. Outside time is now mostly in the mornings and only on occasions when the sun has come out or we feel the children need to have more outside time, do we go out in the afternoon. This will be the new schedule until we feel a change is needed or until the sun stays up for longer again.

We have been enjoying some very eventful weeks lately with Sinterklaas coming to visit us, a yummy Nobel lunch and lots of Christmas and Lucia preparations.

On Monday, the 5th of December, it was the birthday of Sinterklaas. Sinterklaas is a Dutch traditional holiday and it is celebrated every year during November and the beginning of December. Children can put their shoes and find a present in it the next morning. So that’s what we did with the children at school before sleep time. After sleep time they found their own made Dutch cookies (pepernoten) and a mandarin in their shoe. They were so excited and loved their small presents. During the afternoon snack we enjoyed the treats, sang songs and enjoyed wearing their special hats that we made the week before.

For the Nobel lunch we have been working for the Peace prize, we have made a wreath of handprints where everyone joined together; we have also been giving all our friends extra many hugs! We had a special lunch on Friday, with all our children lovely dressed up for this special event. The whole school sat together and ate a three course meal. During the lunch the different groups presented their creations and received their prizes. The Penguins received the Nobel Prize for Peace because we showed how good friends we are, no matter our differences in culture and background.

This week we have also been painting our own giant Christmas tree that we have decorated with different types of bulbuls, we painted round Styrofoam balls and we will hang them in the tree with some crayon drawn ones next week.

Next week is Lucia and we hope to see you all then, any questions on the costumes please ask us!

Hello Futuraskolan Families,

Please see the following message from Coral

All the best,
Nicole Vickers
Pre-school Coordinator

Greetings to all of you!

Well, it has been a busy first week, lots of new names and faces, but what
an amazing group of people we have here at Maskinvägen. If you haven’t had a
chance to meet me yet, I will be in today(Friday the 9th), Monday the 12th
and Tuesdsay the 13th so be sure to give me a wave, or just come by and say
hi.

Quick reminder, Lucia is on tuesday. Sara Drew will be there for the
celebrations in Brunbärsvägen I will be celibrating at Täby, Maskinvägen.

I had my first PSA meeting Wednessday, first staff meeting was on Monday,
where I mentioned that I would set up a schedule in the office as to when I
will be at Brunbärsvägen vs Täby so that everyone knows where I am, which
classrooms I am visiting, and what I am doing that month. I will try and get
the schedule up by the end of next week as I am still in the middle of
planing Christmas break and January.

We are still working on getting me a telephone, but in the meantime you can
contact me per e-mail if anything is unclear, you have any questions, or you
just want to say hi.

Have a great weekend!
