Newsletter week 40

Dear Peacocks parents,

We have two parents joining us to the museum but we really need one more! Who can come with us to the sports museum on Wednesday the 8th of October?

The Peacocks group will have their pictures taken on the 21st of October.

Our learning:

Monday:

This week we talked about the food pyramid. In circle time we discussed the essence of food when you use your body. We talked about what athletes eat and what we eat.

We showed them the food pyramid with all the different food groups.

We have been working on the following Lpfö goals:

* Develop their curiosity and enjoyment, as well as their ability to play and learn

* Develop their self-autonomy and confidence in their own ability

* Understanding of the importance of maintaining their own health and well-being

Tuesday:

In three groups the children had different activities. They made their Olympic medals, they read books and the had word cards of all food items.

The children could decorate their own Olympic medal themselves with glitters and drawing on it.

The children learned the words of the different food items and placed them in the correct food category.

Also we have got a letter from Vanessa, all the way from Greece!

We read the letter together and we looked at the two items she send with it. The children were very impressed and liked it a lot to get mail.

We have been working on the following Lpfö goals:

*Develop their use of spoken language, vocabulary and concepts, as well as the ability to play with words, relate something and express their thoughts.

* Develop their creative abilities and the ability to convey impressions

Wednesday:

In circle time we did a lot! First we had a recap of all the food items. All the children got one item and had to place them in the right box. After that we wrote a letter back to Vanessa. All the children wrote their name on the letter as well.

After circle time the children went in three groups in the Math and construction room.

All children got a turn to draw the food they like to eat on a day and to tell us why it is important to eat health food.

After lunch we went to Näsby park with the whole class. We went to the store and bought a envelope and a stamp then we wrote down the address in Greece were Vanesse is staying.

The children were very excited that a letter can go all the way to Greece in just a few days, we talked about the different roots a letter can go to get from Näasby park to Greece.

We have been working on the following Lpfö goals:

* Develop their creative abilities and the ability to convey impressions and thoughts.

* Develop their ability to function individually and in a group

Thursday:

In small groups and together with the Flamingoes we watched a movie about a girl that is very good in sports. The movie shows that it takes lot’s of motivation and that is hard work to get to the top, as well as that doing a sport need to stay fun and it’s about participation and not about winning.

In the afternoon we baked ‘sand’ cookies. The children prepared the dough and choose shapes to cut the cookies in. With snack the children enjoyed the cookies they made. We made a little bit too much, so the children took some cookies home. We hope you enjoyed them!

We have been working on the following Lpfö goals:

* Develop their curiosity and enjoyment, as well as their ability to play and learn.

* Develop their understanding of quantity, measurements and change

Friday:

In the morning we went to the park where the children had lots of fun! They actually organized a relay race themselves:)

In the art room we finished making the Olympic flag with paint. You can find their artwork on the orange wall in the Math and Construction room.

We have been working on the following Lpfö goals:

* Develop their motor skills. Ability to coordinate awareness of their own body.

* Develop their creative abilities and the ability to convey impressions, thoughts and experiences.

Important information:

We have noticed that often it happens that a child is picked up by someone else then you.

If this is the case please let us know by sending us a text message, phone call, email or directly speaking to us. This is for the safety of your child!

Also please remember that the children are not allowed to climb on the gate and fence. To keep it safe for the children we kindly ask you to not lift your children from or over the fence.  When saying goodby or picking up a child, please do not approach or stand outside the fence.  The children will come to the fence and want to climb it which is no ok.

Please send indoor shoes with your child.  Next week we will have a fire drill and every child should have indoor shoes for this.

To be able to start our activities with all the children we we would like to let you know that we have snack and circle time at 9.30 and start our activities no later than 10.00.

We have seen that many children want their parents to stay longer, and that is very normal. Leaving your child at the pre-school can sometimes be a challenge. For children saying goodbye is more difficult when you stay for a long time. We know it can be though, but for the child it’s often better when you leave quickly after drop-off. Except of Monday when we have planning time, one of the Peacock teachers is always at school from 8.00.

We will have toyday every last wednesday of the month. The next toyday will be on the 29th of October.

We kindly ask you to not give your child toys to school on the other days.

Together with the Flamingoes we will start the theme Changes in week 42. In week 42 and 43 we will teach the children about the concept of changes. After höstlov we will read the book of the ‘Hungry Caterpillar’. We will have arranged all different activities around this book and the change of the caterpillar to a butterfly. Also we will visit the museum in Hagaparken!

If you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to contact us or speak directly with us.
